Today I have been overwhelmed by contingency. Nothing really has to be as it is. For this reason beauty is all the more devastating and mysterious. Why did Jesus die? Yet, what we celebrate when we worship a God who made everything out of nothing is that "what is" didn't have to be and for this reason everything, which is good and true and beautiful, must be accepted as gift.
